Mohammad Idrissi<\/strong>The discovery was made after the official announcement of the discovery.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 data-start=\"1563\" data-end=\"1622\">A discovery that challenges the neighborhood's history<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1624\" data-end=\"1946\">According to the Rector, the university community was aware of the discovery weeks before it was made public. On approaching the excavation area and observing the orientation of the tombs, it became clear that it was a <strong data-start=\"1864\" data-end=\"1887\">Muslim cemetery<\/strong>initially identified as a <em data-start=\"1924\" data-end=\"1936\">necropolis<\/em> andalus\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1948\" data-end=\"2183\">This fact is especially relevant because the Macarena area, traditionally considered as a peripheral space \"outside the walls\", <strong data-start=\"2092\" data-end=\"2182\">had not been recognized until now for its historical weight during the Andalusian period.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2185\" data-end=\"2447\">\n<p data-start=\"2187\" data-end=\"2447\">\"It has always been thought that this area was not so important historically, but this discovery shows that this is not the case. Muslims lived here, buried their loved ones here and were an active part of this urban space,\" Idrissi explained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h4 data-start=\"2454\" data-end=\"2489\">Memory, identity and belonging<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"2491\" data-end=\"2725\">For the Muslim community of the Macarena, the finding has a profound identity value. It is not only a question of archaeological remains, but of <strong data-start=\"2640\" data-end=\"2724\">people who lived, coexisted and rested in this same place centuries ago.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2727\" data-end=\"2937\">The proximity of the cemetery -barely 200 meters from the University and aligned with the current Muslim cemetery on the avenue- reinforces the historical continuity of the space and gives it a special significance.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2939\" data-end=\"3137\">\n<p data-start=\"2941\" data-end=\"3137\">\"It's not just that it's close to our downtown. It's that everything fits together: the neighborhood, the history, the present. All of this makes the discovery deeply meaningful,\" the Rector noted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h4 data-start=\"3144\" data-end=\"3188\">An Andalusian legacy to be celebrated<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"3190\" data-end=\"3406\">Al-Andalusia insists that this finding must be understood as a <strong data-start=\"3266\" data-end=\"3330\">opportunity to dignify and make the Andalusian legacy visible.<\/strong>not only for the Muslim community, but for society as a whole.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3408\" data-end=\"3638\">In a context marked by an increase in Islamophobic discourse, the University considers it essential to <strong data-start=\"3506\" data-end=\"3568\">remember that Islam is part of the history of Spain.<\/strong> and that this past can serve as a basis for present coexistence.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"3640\" data-end=\"4022\">\n<p data-start=\"3642\" data-end=\"4022\">\"The Andalusian legacy is part of the Spanish identity. It is something we should know, study and celebrate together,\" said Idrissi, lamenting the general lack of knowledge about fundamental Andalusian figures like <strong data-start=\"3866\" data-end=\"3888\">Muhammad al-Idrisi<\/strong>the great cartographer whose maps were used throughout Europe for centuries, or <strong data-start=\"3963\" data-end=\"3983\">Abbas Ibn Firnas<\/strong>documented pioneer of human flight.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h4 data-start=\"4029\" data-end=\"4090\">Towards public recognition and an act of dignity<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"4092\" data-end=\"4407\">The Al-Andalusia Islamic University of Spain is currently in discussions with the <strong data-start=\"4189\" data-end=\"4225\">District and the Junta de Andaluc\u00eda<\/strong> to study the organization of a <strong data-start=\"4262\" data-end=\"4302\">institutional act of recognition<\/strong>to highlight the discovery and pay tribute to the people buried in this place.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4409\" data-end=\"4596\">The institution stresses the importance of any intervention being carried out in accordance with <strong data-start=\"4492\" data-end=\"4514\">respect and dignity<\/strong>remembering that these are human beings who have been resting there for centuries.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"4598\" data-end=\"4956\">\n<p data-start=\"4600\" data-end=\"4956\">\"We are moved by the discovery, but it also gives us a feeling of respect and recollection.
